Passive House Western Pennsylvania received a $25,000 grant from the West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund to secure space in Pittsburgh’s LEED certified David L. Lawrence Convention Center for the 2018 North American Passive House Network national conference October 17-21.

Passive House is a rigorous standard for energy efficiency resulting in low energy use for space heating or cooling. Building professionals have used the standard to construct residential properties, office buildings, hotels, prisons, schools, hospitals, supermarkets, and mixed-used buildings.

The United Nations recently identified the Passive House design concept as probably the only way to mitigate global warming caused by the built environment.

WPPSEF’s commitment toward that goal is enabling the conference to use the Convention Center for an outstanding event where crucial educational activities will occur.

The North American Passive House Network conference annually brings together Passive House design experts, and manufacturers of products that perform to the levels needed to achieve the significant degree of sustainability found in Passive House projects.

Government officials, financial professionals and other interested parties will also attend, with all attendees able to learn of the latest advances in Passive building design and construction.

Joel Morrison, Director of WPPSEF, said“The NAPHN18 conference fits well with the WPPSEF mission to facilitate public education regarding sustainable energy deployment in the Western Pennsylvania region.”

PHWPA also notes that the WPPSEF grant extends the benefits of the education and information exchange that will occur at the conference to North America and beyond because of the many national and international attendees, who will return to their homelands filled with new, applicable knowledge.

Visit the Passive House Western PA website for more information. PHWPA is a regional organization dedicated to the advancement of the Passive House concept as the path toward buildings that will actually deliver comfort at very low energy usage levels.
