Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn Friday addressed land and water protection, and community revitalization, at the annual partnership meeting of the Schuylkill Highlands Conservation Landscape in Pottstown, Montgomery County.

“The Schuylkill Highlands Conservation Landscape Partnership is a place-based strategy for natural resource stewardship and local support for land conservation, locally-driven planning, and community revitalization efforts,” Dunn said.

Accomplishments for the partnership for 2017 include:

-- Protecting critical landscapes and have added acreage to French Creek State Park and the William Penn Forest District in Berks County;

-- Working to build new trails and closing gaps on the Schuylkill River Trail in Chester, Berks and Montgomery counties;

-- Encouraging sustainable economic development;

-- Holding a Summerfest in St. Peter’s Village, Chester County, in August that attracted thousands of visitors to the area; and

-- Hosting a Greenways and Trails Summit in Reading in September.

The Schuylkill Highlands landscape includes the largest unbroken forest between Washington, D.C. and New York City, and many of the Pennsylvania’s most populated counties. It includes Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lebanon, Lancaster and Montgomery counties.
