Applications Now Being Accepted For Lancaster County Youth Conservation School

The Lancaster County Conservation District and local sportsmen's groups are now accepting applications from students 14 to 16 interested in a career in conservation or the environment at their annual Lancaster County Youth Conservation School. The School will be held from July 22 to 28 and focuses on outdoor activities and conservation of natural resources. Applications are due by June 15. Students live at the school on the grounds of the Northern Lancaster County Fish and Game Protection Association in West Cocalico Township. Students sleep in tents and cots to demonstrate low-impact camping. Students will gain extensive knowledge about wildlife and conservation, leadership experience and communication skills. Topics include stream restoration, forestry, canoeing, wildlife management, archery, survival and firearms safety. Students will learn from professionals in various environmental and conservation fields and discuss career options with them. Local sportsmen’s clubs and community organizations provide 90 percent of the school’s tuition.
