Applications Now Being Accepted For SME PA Anthracite Section Mining Student Scholarships

The PA Anthracite Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration is now accepting applications for the John Kaminski Memorial Scholarships for mining-related engineering or science majors for Pennsylvania students.

The deadline for applications is May 15.

The scholarship consists of a four-part $2,000 grant and annually awarded in one $500 grant to a graduating High School Senior and three $500 grants for a college or university undergraduate scholarships for enrollment and attendance in an engineering or science program related to mining at a school in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Graduating Senior Scholarship is a one-time only grant issued for freshmen attending their first semester in the fall of academic year.

The College/University Undergraduate Scholarship is for High School Senior Scholarship winners and current undergraduate students and may be renewed upon application if satisfactory progress (>3.0 GPA) towards an appropriate degree is maintained.

A check for $500 will be presented to the selected students at the Section’s Annual Meeting and Dinner in late June for the fall semester.  If available, the students and their parents will be guests of the Society.

The scholarships are named in memory of John Kaminski, former president of Kaminski Brothers Coal and Coolbaugh Sand and Gravel in Pittston who was the 1980-1981 Section Chair.

The Kaminski family and the PA Anthracite Section endow annual scholarships for Pennsylvania students.
