Army Corps Of Engineers Sets Flood Proofing, Floodplain Management Workshops In Allegheny, Armstrong Counties

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a series of three flood proofing and floodplain management workshop for community officials and the public in Allegheny and Armstrong counties after significant flash flooding events in Western Pennsylvania counties. 

This is a chance for local officials and citizens to receive training on different types of nonstructural flood proofing techniques from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National Nonstructural Flood-Proofing Committee.

The flood-proofing discussion will include elevating structures and homes, wet and dry flood-proofing, and filling in the basement.  Participants will also hear about federal grant programs from the PA Emergency Management Agency.

Federal and State agency representatives will be on hand to discuss other floodplain management topics, such as the National Flood Insurance Program, Community Rating System, insurance options, and flood forecasts and warnings.

The workshops will be held--

-- July 17: Community Officials & Homeowners, Oakdale Community Center, 104 Seminary Ave, Oakdale, Allegheny County from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Click Here to register.

-- July 18: Community Officials, Brady’s Bend Township, 1004 State Route 68, East Brady, Armstrong County from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.  Click Here to register

The event is free, but attendance is limited.  Certified Floodplain Managers will receive credit for attending.
