KMA Remarketing Corp. in Dubois, Clearfield County, refurbishes used medical equipment and through its efforts on pollution prevention, reduced its annual cost for energy and disposing of hazardous wastes by $35,000 a year. The Pollution Prevention Assistance Account loan program helped KMA Remarketing save money by reducing the amount of paint, primer, thinner and solvent required in their painting operation. The company will use the funding to install new High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray guns and spray booth. The project will also reduce its hazardous waste disposal costs and improve the efficiency of their painting operation. The project will also allow the company to have an increase in production because the change in process eliminates the reworking of finished parts due to overspray. In addition, the company projects annual savings of 2,446 MCF (thousand cubic feet) of natural gas as well as a reduction in labor and rework costs. Combined, these savings are projected to save the company approximately $35,375 annually. The company has projected that the payback will be approximately 1 year.
