PASA: Taking Over An Established Farm Business Workshops Oct. 11 In Pittsburgh, Oct. 13 In Jefferson County

The PA Association for Sustainable Agriculture will host two Alternative Land Access - Taking Over An Established Farm Business Workshops in October--

-- October 11: At the Black Urban Gardeners & Farmers of Pittsburgh Co-Op 7019 Monticello Street in Pittsburgh from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Are you actively searching for land? Do you currently own or lease land? Are you thinking about transitioning your land to new owners?

PASA invites you to join them and the National Young Farmers Coalition for a listening session to discuss the farmland access and tenure challenges that you’ve endured in western Pennsylvania.

Whether you’re a beginning or experienced farmer, your voice is critical to informing our state and federal legislators about what farmers need to succeed.

Through this farmer-to-farmer conversation, we’ll work together to identify common challenges around land access for farmers in Western Pennsylvania and build a land access policy platform to advocate for changes in the state.

But before you go jumping into an established business, you need to know the realities of what it means to run a business that has already been in operation for years, even decades.

Claire and Rusty Orner of Quiet Creek Herb Farm, which is itself in the early stages of transitioning to new owners, will share the daily realities of running an established and respected farm business, and explain what an incoming steward can expect when taking over such an operation.
