On March 28, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission approved $3.67 million in grants for 22 mutli-use trail projects throughout Greater Philadelphia.

Projects include design and construction, as well as feasibility studies, to complete gaps in and extend or connect to Circuit Trails. The projects will connect more people to jobs, shopping destinations, outdoor recreation, public transportation, and other neighborhoods.

“These trail projects continue our commitment to completing the vision of the Circuit, providing opportunities to travel throughout the region without a car which reduces congestion, improves air quality and contributes to a healthy lifestyle,” said Barry Seymour, DVRPC Executive Director.

Greater Philadelphia is building the Circuit Trails, an 800-plus mile network of multi-use trails spanning the metropolitan region. Currently, about 332 miles of this network are complete, 74 miles are in progress, and 408 miles are in some stage of planning.

For this round of funding, the following Pennsylvania trail projects are receiving grants:

-- Berks County: Monocacy Trail Bridge (const.), Schuylkill River Greenway Association – $130,500

-- Bucks County: Bensalem Greenway Segment 6, 10, & 11 (const.), Bensalem Twp. – $350,000; Central Park to Route 313 Feasibility Study (planning), Doylestown Township – $30,000; Route 202 Parkway to Bradford Dam Connector Trail (const.), Warrington Township – $491,100

-- Chester County: Bryn Erin to CVT Connector (const.), East Whiteland Township – $120,000; CVT Route 100 Crossing Improvements (const.), Chester County – $150,000; Plum Run Greenway Trail Phase 1 (design), East Bradford Twp. – $115,000; Southern Chester County Circuit Trail Feasibility Study (planning), Chester County Planning Commission – $48,000

-- Delaware County:  Darby Creek Trail – Swedish Cabin to Rosemont Ave (design), Upper Darby Township – $77,000

-- Montgomery County: Dreshertown Road Cross County Trail (design), Upper Dublin Twp. – $250,000; PECO Miracle-Nature Trail (planning), Whitemarsh Township – $40,000; Schuylkill River Trail – Lower Pottsgrove (const.), Montgomery County Planning Commission, – $353,700; Shirk-Hutt & Buckman Trail (const.), Upper Salford Township – $175,000: Tookany Creek Trail Feasibility Study (planning), Tookany-Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership – $60,000

-- Philadelphia: Cobbs Creek Connector Segment A (const.), Philadelphia Parks and Recreation – $250,000; Parkside Cynwyd Trail (design), Philadelphia Parks and Recreation – $165,000; Trolley Trail (const.), Fairmount Park Conservancy – $72,000
