Do you have student interns working and learning at your environmental, conservation organization or agency this summer?

PA Environment Digest would like to highlight what they’re doing and learning during their intern experiences, so send them to: PaEnviroDigest@gmail.com.

Internships can be very valuable in the development of career and personal interests in a student.

My career is a perfect example.

I started as a summer intern for DER’s (yes DER’s) Bureau of Air Quality at the Harrisburg Regional Office all 4 summers while I was going to Shippensburg University.  I also had a internships during my Junior and Senior years with DER at Shippensburg.

That led me to a career at DER, now DEP and a “mere” 35 years later, and with the direction of many good bosses and colleagues along the way, to becoming Secretary of DEP in April of 2001.

So send them in!  Better yet, have them write and illustrate it!  It’s good practice!
