Construction Code Review & Advisory Council Invites Comments On Latest International Building Codes; Seeks Stakeholders

The Department of Labor and Industry Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council is seeking public comments on the 2018 International Code Council Building Codes from June 13 to October 10. (formal notice) The submission form will be posted on the Council’s webpage. The Council’s last update of the state’s Uniform Construction Code based on the 2015 International Building Codes for commercial and residential buildings resulted in potential energy use savings of up to 25 percent for owners and occupants of newly constructed or renovated building. The increased insulation values and less expansive compliance costs in the new code translates to saving $300 to $500 per year in energy costs for residential housing. Updated energy and other conservation standards are included in the 2018 the Council will now review to determine which, if any, of the new provisions will be incorporated into Pennsylvania’s Uniform Construction Code. This notice is just the beginning of the Council’s review process. Stakeholders Needed The Council is also seeking individuals interested in serving on the 2018 Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council’s Technical Advisory Committees.
