PA Chapter-The American Chestnut Foundation Seeks Citizen Science Volunteers To Work with Chestnut Seedlings June 20-21 At Penn State Arboretum
Photo

The PA Chapter - The American Chestnut Foundation is seeking citizen scientist volunteers to help conduct Small Stem Assays (SSA) with American chestnut seedlings June 20-21 at the Chestnut Orchard, Arboretum at Penn State in University Park, Centre County.

No experience necessary. SSA is one method being used to test chestnut seedlings for resistance to chestnut blight.

Volunteers will work together with staff to inoculate seedlings with the chestnut blight fungus. After which they will measure canker length every 4-6 weeks, but also count dead trees every day.

“Days-to-wilt” is an important metric to measure for determining which trees have resistance.

Sign up for an hour or the whole day.

Click Here for all the details. Questions should be directed to Jean by sending email to:  mail@patacf.org  or call 814-863-7192.
