Registration is now open for the national American Chestnut Foundation  Fall Meeting to be held October 19 in Gettysburg at the Wyndham Gettysburg, 95 Presidential Circle, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. 

The meeting is packed with educational sessions led by amazing speakers, poster sessions highlighting current American chestnut research, and other exciting activities featuring Gettysburg’s rich history.

This event will feature Awards Dinner keynote speaker Jenny Rose Carey the renowned gardener, educator, historian, and senior director at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Meadowbrook Farm. Jenny is also the author of Glorious Shade: Dazzling Plants, Design Ideas, and Proven Techniques for Your Shady Garden.

Other highlights include speaker presentations (including the latest in chestnut research), student poster session, storytelling, and even an afternoon mini concert featuring PA/NJ Chapter member Peter Lane on banjo!

The meeting is being held in collaboration with the Schatz Tree Genetics Colloquium, the Gettysburg Nature Alliance and the PA Chapter-The American Chestnut Foundation.

Call For Posters/Student Talks

Meeting organizers have issued a call for posters and student talks to recognize the breadth of topics under investigation in the name of species restoration.

Research posters should address topics relative to American chestnut restoration and include, but are not limited to: Silviculture and forest management; Chestnut blight, Phytophthora cinnamomi (ink disease) and other pests and pathogens; Forest genetics; Restoration and reintroduction; Mine land reclamation; Forest and wildlife ecology; History; Timber value/use; Breeding and biotechnology; and Other topics related to American chestnut.
