The Engineers' Society of Western PA will host a free Brownfields Basics Workshop on September 18 at the Society's offices at 337 Fourth Avenue in Pittsburgh from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A brownfield is a real property whose use or reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant.

At the Workshop, participants will learn about Pennsylvania voluntary Act 2 Land Recycling Program that provides a clear path to address brownfield contamination and bring these properties back to productive use.

The Workshop will feature speakers from the--

-- Department of Environmental Protection

-- Department of Community & Economic Development

-- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

-- New Jersey Institute of Technology's Technical Assistance to Brownfield Communities Program

-- A local partner to bring you some real-world examples of projects that have gone through the process.

Whether you are a seasoned veteran of Brownfields or new to the concept, you are invited to acquire the knowledge and contacts to help you navigate through the processes of obtaining funding and understand the procedures of the Act 2 Program.
