The September issue of PA Township News has a series of articles outlining the threats public and private water supplies face from emerging contaminants.

Contaminants of emerging concern are compounds that may not have been detected before in water testing, do not have existing water quality standards and that can affect the health and hormones of human and aquatic life.

Amy Bobb, Assistant Editor of PA Township News, explores the impacts of contaminants like PFAS chemicals in Horsham Township, Montgomery County and Warminster and Warrington townships, Bucks County associated with firefighting foam used at the former naval air station there.

The articles describe how the affected townships are financing drinking water cleanup, how homeowners with private water wells can protect their health through water testing and what state and federal agencies are doing about the emerging contaminant issue.
