DCNR Issues 3nd Fall Foliage Report, Get Tips On The Best Spots For Viewing

On October 10, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources issued its third Fall Foliage Report with regional comments on factors influencing foliage changes. The recent drop to seasonable to below-average temperatures across the state has pushed the most substantial and widespread transition to fall forest colors seen so far this season. Areas only showing early color last week appear primed for peak, which could be only a week or so away in significant parts of the state. Notable changes have occurred throughout the Appalachians and the Allegheny Plateau. Northern hardwood species like maple, birch, and cherries are displaying fantastic color this week in widespread areas. Cool, dry conditions in the 10-day forecast foretell improving foliage color for a majority of the state this week. The best fall foliage viewing this week is in Northcentral and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Don’t forget to look at the comments on foliage by region of the state.
