The South Mountain Partnership is asking the public to submit nominations for the 8th Spirit of South Mountain award. The deadline for nominations is December 20.

The public is encouraged to nominate individuals, projects, or organizations that have made significant contributions to advance a positive and sustainable future for the South Mountain landscape, which consists of portions of Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, and York counties.

Last year, the award went to Karen Lutz, retired Mid-Atlantic Regional Director for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Karen joined the staff of ATC in 1988 after volunteering and being a founding member of the Cumberland Valley Appalachian Trail Club.

The Spirit of South Mountain award will be presented at the ninth annual Power of the Partnership Year-End Celebration in early 2020 in Adams County.

Award nominations will be judged based on the degree to which they:

-- Enrich the quality of life and sense of place of the region's citizens and communities

-- Advance the conservation goals within the South Mountain region

-- Conserve the natural, cultural, recreational and agricultural resources that make the South Mountain landscape unique

-- Elevate public awareness of the natural, cultural, recreational, and agricultural resources

-- Encourage collaboration among residents, businesses, public agencies, local governments and non-profit and community organizations

Click Here for instructions on submitting a nomination or for more information.  Questions should be directed to Katie Hess by sending email to: khess@appalachiantrail.org or by calling 717-258-5771.
