Berks Conservation District Held Riparian Buffer Tree Planting Event Nov. 9

The Berks County Conservation District hosted a riparian buffer tree planting event on November 9 to plant trees on property owned by the County of Berks by the 4-H Community Center, 1206 County Welfare Road in Leesport.

The District had information available to landowners on the financial and environmental benefits of the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) which pays farmers and other landowners to conserve and enhance their land.

The tree planting project is funded by a $2,500 mini-grant from the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) Outreach Program Office administered by the PA Association of Conservation Districts.

“With this funding, anyone who owns land next to a waterway will be invited to find out if they are a candidate to get paid to conserve and enhance their land,” said Dean Druckenmiller, Berks County Conservation District Executive. “Over the next year, we plan to educate landowners on the CREP Program and to help those already enrolled in the program with maintenance issues.”

Funding and other support for the CREP Outreach Program Office Mini-grant Program is provided by the PA Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. through a Growing Greener Watershed Protection grant from the Department of Environmental Protection and with additional support from USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service-PA Office.

For more information on financial and technical assistance available to landowners, visit the Berks County Conservation District website or call 610-372-4657.
