DEP Increases Coal Mining Reclamation Fee To $100/Acre In 2020

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the November 23 PA Bulletin the per acre Reclamation Fee for 2020 will be $100 per acre to cover costs incurred by the Reclamation Fee O&M Trust Account (PA Bulletin, page 7033). 

The Trust Account is used by DEP to pay the construction costs and operation and maintenance costs associated with treating post-mining pollution discharges at 26 ABS [Alternative Bonding System] Legacy Sites.

Since 2010, the Reclamation Fee has been $0.00, except for calendar year 2016 when it was $100 per acre.
