7 House Members Retiring, Not Returning; Legislators To Get 1.9467% Raise In 2020

Rep. Neal Goodman (D-Schuylkill), Democratic Caucus Administrator, announced last week he is retiring at the end of his term. Also not seeking reelection in 2020 are-- Rep. Steve Barrar (R-Delaware), Rep. Cris Dush (R-Jefferson) and Rep. Steve McCarter (D-Montgomery). Other members are retiring because they won other offices in the November election-- Rep. Gene Digirolamo (R-Bucks) -- Bucks County Commissioner; Rep. Ted Nesbit (R-Mercer) -- Mercer County Court; and Rep. Justin Walsh (R-Westmoreland) -- Westmoreland Court of Common Pleas There will be more announcements moving into January. Pay Raises The automatic pay increases received by members of the General Assembly, judges, executive branch senior managers will be 1.9467 percent starting December 1, 2019 for 2020. Not 1.9 percent, or 1.94 percent, but 1.9467 percent. Automatic pay raises have been in place since 2005, despite legislators saying they want to get rid of them.
