The January issue of the Catalyst Newsletter is now available from the Butler County-based Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition featuring the 2019 accomplishments of the Coalition, its partners and volunteers. Among the accomplishments are-- Recognition: -- Buck Neely receives the Early Career Award from the American Society of Mining and Reclamation Restoration Projects: -- Funding Received for Slippery Rock Passive Treatment Rehab & Maintenance in the headwaters of Slippery Rock Creek -- Two grants received from the PA DEP 319 program to construct a sludge pond and passive treatment system within the Blacks Creek watershed -- Vogel Disposal Services completes construction of the SR89 passive treatment system -- De Sale 1 and 2 maintenance (photo) -- Slippery Rock Campground Stream Bank Education/Outreach: -- Prairie Improvement Day — 1/19 -- Cliff Denholm presents to Westminster College on passive treatment and resource recovery—2/8 -- Cherry Pie Hike — 2/23 -- De Sale Phase 1, De Sale Phase 2, McIntire, and BC16 field trip and water and sludge sampling by Westminster College students — 2/23 and 2/26 -- Shaun Busler presents to the Butler Outdoor Club — 3/6 -- Shaun Busler attends Grove City College night to discuss careers in the environmental field — 3/21 -- Cliff Denholm guest speaker at Hillview Intermediate School’s Eco Club, Grove City — 3/27 -- Cliff Denholm attends Hillview Intermediate School’s Eco Club “Trout in the Classroom” release day, Grove City — 4/26 -- Wolf Creek water sampling with Slippery Rock University students — 4/30 -- Westminster College present findings on Resource Recovery at WPCAMR Meeting -- Celebrate the Bloom, Jennings Environmental Education Center—7/27 -- Office of Surface Mining Tour in the Slippery Rock Watershed— 10/25 -- Student Symposium on the Environment, Westminster College—12/5 Conferences: -- West Virginia Mine Drainage Task Force Symposium, Morgantown, WV — 3/27-28 -- American Society of Mining and Reclamation Conference, Big Sky, Montana —6/3-6/7 -- PA AMR Conference held jointly with the National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs and National Association of State Land Reclamationists’ Conferences, State College – 9/8-9/11 -- 14th Annual PA NW GIS Conference, Clarion University—10/17-18 Also in this month’s Catalysis is-- -- A Thanks You to Allegheny Mineral Corp.
