The Stroud Water Research Center and DCNR's Bureau of State Parks are hosting an Education for Community Resilience Workshop on February 11-12 at the Center, 970 Spencer Road in Avondale, Chester County. If you are a non-formal educator hoping to better prepare and strengthen our communities in the face of climate change, join regional science and policy leaders, and fellow educators for a collaborative 2-day learning opportunity designed to explore some of the science, policy and social/environmental justice aspects of resilience. Together, participants will consider how resilience is and can be integrated within education programming to enable communities to make informed decisions and reduce their vulnerability to environmental hazards and stresses. During this workshop we will: -- Develop awareness/understanding of the variety of ways in which we define/discuss resilience (what do we mean by resilience in different contexts – what is the resilience landscape?) -- Develop an understanding of existing regional science and how it supports resilient communities and ecosystems -- Develop awareness of regional resiliency efforts – Actions being taken and ways to connect to/celebrate those actions -- Discuss and learn about models of how resilience fits within education programming (existing or new) and identify ways we can connect to regional resiliency efforts -- Develop capacity to integrate programming related to and supportive of community resiliency -- Consider education’s role as a key driver in student, teacher, and public understanding of resiliency Click Here to register or for more information.
