The Crawford County Conservation District is recommending pond, lake and reservoir  owners watch the upcoming Carp Management and Lake Restoration Webinar on February 28 from the University of Minnesota from Noon to 1:00 p.m.

Common carp are one of the most widespread invasive fish globally. The Webinar presents a brief history of common carp introductions around the world, explain their impacts on lake ecosystems and show some of the new and innovative tools we use in carp management.

These tools include autonomous systems for removing carp during spawning migrations, and conditioning strategies that exploit carp’s social behaviors to train them with food and remove.

The talk will also cover the effects of carp on shallow lakes, including systems that historically served as key habitat for migratory waterfowl.
