Penn State Extension will hold a series of four Farm Energy Day Workshops from April 8 to May 8 to provide an overview of energy conservation and renewable energy options for farmers.

This workshop is for farmers, rural businesses, and farming-related industries such as agricultural product processors and packing houses considering renewable energy technologies.

While the focus will be on solar energy and biomass conversion, Penn State Extension energy experts and industry representatives will be available to answer questions and make recommendations.

The workshops will be held--

-- April 8: Leesport, Berks County

-- April 17: Mercer, Mercer County

-- April 24: Troy, Bradford County

-- May 8: Brownsville, Fayette County

The workshops will feature a day of presentations, discussion, and tours as we examine how farmers can make the most of their operations from an energy point of view.

Attendees will learn about energy policies, prices, and trends, the equipment used to generate electricity from solar power and thermal energy from biomass conversion, how to choose the appropriate technologies and suppliers of those technologies to meet needs, and how to budget and obtain financial support for making an investment in renewable energy.

Case studies from industry professionals will also be presented. Vendors will be available to discuss their products and possible solutions for particular problems.
