HB 1100 Subsidy Bill For Using Natural Gas In Manufacturing Goes To Governor

On March 18, the Senate sent House Bill 1100 (Kaufer-R-Luzerne) establishing a subsidy program for the use of natural gas in manufacturing to the Governor for his action.  Gov. Wolf previously said he would veto the bill because he said he wanted to broaden the program.

In a statement, PennFuture President and CEO Jacquelyn Bonomo said--

"At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is gripping our Commonwealth and the nation, and at a time when our elected leaders should be working solely to keep Pennsylvanians safe and reassured, they instead acted on behalf of the fracked gas and petrochemical industries by offering billions in taxpayer handouts.

“The legislature waited weeks to send its fracked gas bailout bill to the Governor in an effort to give its proponents maximum time to build political pressure for its passage. Now, they’ve moved the bill in the midst of a national health crisis when the public is rightfully distracted.

“Think about where the legislature's priorities are: they are asking the Governor to spend billions more in taxpayer handouts to fossil fuel facilities that will cause more respiratory disease, rather than invest in an aggressive response to a pandemic that is harming those with underlying health conditions the most. It’s craven politics at its worst.”
