The Department of Agriculture published notice in the May 2 PA Bulletin outlining the process for accepting applications for the Farm Conservation Excellence Grant Program providing up to $2.5 million in funding for farms in Lancaster and York counties. 

Of the $2.5 million, each county will receive $1 million to put farm conservation projects on the ground and $250,000 each for farmer technical assistance and administrative costs.

Lancaster and York counties have been targeted because together they account for over   25 percent of the nutrient and sediment pollution reductions needed to meet Chesapeake Bay Watershed cleanup mandates.

Best management practices funded under this program include stream-side buffers, livestock exclusion fencing, streambank restoration, barnyard and feedlot runoff abatement, nutrient management and conservation plans and more.

The program is administered by the State Conservation Commission under delegation agreements to be signed with Lancaster and York counties and application forms, instructions and other information will be posted on its webpage.
