Would you like to be a StreamWatcher? The Brodhead Watershed Association will soon welcome new “water warriors” into its popular StreamWatch Program.

A StreamWatch volunteer training webinar will be held via Zoom at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27. Registration is required by noon on June 26, and registrants will be emailed details on joining the webinar.

For 28 years, BWA StreamWatch volunteers have been checking local streams on a monthly basis. If problems are discovered, BWA alerts regulatory agencies, such as the Department of Environmental Protection.

Now, with more than 70 volunteers in seven subwatershed regions of Monroe County, new volunteers are always welcome to join the efforts to ensure water quality. This program is also a good refresher course for veteran Streamwatchers.

The training will last approximately 30 minutes, with 15 minutes of questions and answers at the end of the training.

After the webinar, anyone who wants to be a Streamwatcher will be matched to a testing site that is most convenient for the volunteer. Then, a team leader will contact new volunteers to finalize and answer questions.
