As of July 21, the Department of Agriculture reports 165 cases of rabies in wild and domestic animals in 49 counties across the state.

Counties with the most cases of rabies in wild and domestic animals-- Chester (10), Cumberland (12) and York (11).

Followed by Adams (5), Allegheny (6), Bedford (6), Berks (7), Bucks (5), Centre (7), Erie (5), Franklin (5), Lancaster (7), Lycoming (5), Luzerne (7) and Northampton (5).

These counties have no cases so far-- Blair, Cameron, Carbon, Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Montour, Northumberland, Sullivan, Venango, Washington, Wayne and Wyoming.

Rabies is a virus of the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) that can affect any mammal and is widespread throughout Pennsylvania.
