The Stroud Water Research Center in Chester County will recognize The Redford Center with its 2020 Award for Freshwater Excellence at its virtual Water’s Edge Gala on September 22.

The Water’s Edge Gala brings together business leaders in the community, supporters of Stroud Water Research Center, and experts in the world of freshwater.

During this event, the Center recognizes an individual or organization who has made invaluable contributions to the world of fresh water by awarding them with the Stroud Award for Freshwater Excellence.

Stroud: The Redford Center

Co-founded in 2005 by Robert Redford and his son James Redford, The Redford Center uses impact-driven film and media to accelerate environmental and climate justice, solutions, and repair.

They produce, fund and fiscally sponsor a diverse portfolio of projects that aim to balance out the pervasive, alarmist environmental narrative with stories that feature individuals, communities, and organizations taking action to protect and restore the planet.

Drawing on the family’s multi-generational expertise in filmmaking and activism, The Redford Center supports tories and storytellers from communities most negatively impacted by inequitable policies, structures, and distribution of resources.

The environmental challenges we face today go deep and wide, and The Redford Center recognizes that our collective storytelling arsenal needs to reflect the immense task of inspiring action.

The Redford Center model is designed to demonstrate what’s possible, by supporting the creation and dissemination of hopeful stories that showcase environmental progress and solutions.

Their approach is rooted in the belief that through resonate, inspiring stories, they can foster the awareness and learning that leads toward positive environmental change.

Redford Center Grants provides early-stage funding for environmental impact stories that drive awareness, engagement, and action on a variety of topics.

The Redford Center’s Fiscal Sponsorship Program extends its nonprofit status and excellent filmmaker support to kindred environmental impact film and media projects.

The Redford Center’s original productions include:

-- Fighting Goliath: Texas Coal Wars (2008), which helped prevent the construction of 177 new coal-powered plants; and

-- Watershed (2012), which has secured more than $13 million to support on-the-ground restoration work and obtain water rights for the Colorado River Delta Region.

The Redford Center’s current film and campaign-- Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution (2017)-- has screened in all 50 U.S. states and 45 countries, with more than 2 million views on HBO in the U.S. alone.

The Redford Center’s current production-- The Nature Film-- explores the health benefits of the outdoors and what it will take for everyone to gain access to these benefits.
