DCNR Issues First Weekly Fall Foliage Report; 5 Counties Already Approaching Best Color
Photo

On September 24, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources issued its first weekly Fall Foliage Report for September 24 to 30.  New reports will be issued every Thursday.

Trees will already be approaching their best color in McKean, Pike, Potter, Susquehanna, and Wayne counties next week.

Recent frosts and cool nights are pushing development of color, as species noted to change early are beginning to reveal. Black gums, birches, and maples are sprinkling reds and yellows throughout Penn’s Woods.

Drought conditions throughout a significant portion of the state could shorten what is expected to be a vibrant peak season. Forecasted rain beginning next week could quench commonwealth forests, preserving a long, colorful fall.

The report includes specific reports from DCNR foresters in regions across the state.

Visitors can get suggestions about the best spots to view fall foliage on the Penn’s Woods Fall Foliage story map and on the Pennsylvania Tourism Office website.
