On October 17, the PA Resources Council will hold a Reuse Fest in Allegheny County to provide the opportunity for the public to donate a variety of items to nonprofit groups in one convenient location.

A wide variety of materials will be accepted for reuse, including bedding/bath, bikes, clothing, furniture, kitchen items, medical supplies, pet supplies, school/office supplies, usable building materials and more.

Nonprofits collecting materials at the October 17 event will include Brother’s Brother Foundation, Construction Junction, Free Ride, Free Store Wilkinsburg, Goodwill of Southwestern PA, Humane Animal Rescue, Off the Floor, Reagan’s Journey, Society of St. Vincent DePaul and The Education Partnership.

"This one-of-a-kind collection event provides area residents with an opportunity to responsibly donate a variety of unwanted but still usable items to multiple local nonprofits at one convenient location,” according to Sarah Alessio Shea, PRC Collection Events Manager.  “All materials donated at ReuseFest will be reused in some fashion, whether resold, repurposed or given to those in need in our region.”

“Since launching ReuseFest in Pittsburgh in 2012, PRC has collected and diverted tens of thousands of pounds of materials from local landfills,” she explained.  “Items donated and reused to benefit the local community have included everything from bikes and cat carriers to wheelchairs, light fixtures and literally the kitchen sink.”

At this 2020 collection, PRC will modify logistics to promote safety during the current COVID-19 pandemic.  All participants must 1) place all items in the car trunk/truck bed  2) wear a face mask and stay in the vehicle at all times  3) confirm details at PRC’s website before attending the event.

ReuseFest is sponsored by UPMC with support from UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County Parks Department.

The Reuse Fest will take place on October 17, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the North Park Swimming Pool parking lot in Allegheny County.
