Bucknell University 15th Annual River Symposium Call For Presentation Proposals

The Bucknell University Center for Sustainability and the Environment will host its 15th Annual River Symposium on November 6-7 presented in a virtual online format.

The keynote speaker for this year's Symposium will be DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn.

Symposium organizers have issued a call for presentation proposals for virtual poster and oral presentations on a wide range of topics, including the special sessions on scientific research during pandemics, diversity and inclusion and science and communications.

Proposals are due October 21.

Presentations do not have to be geographically restricted to the Susquehanna watershed or the Chesapeake Bay region - we are interested in learning about watersheds around the world.

Students, faculty, professionals, conservancies, environmental agencies, and law and policy makers are invited to contribute.

Awards will be given for best undergraduate and graduate poster and oral presentations.

The symposium offers you a terrific opportunity to make others aware of your research or the environmental restoration and conservation projects you have underway.

The symposium includes three, one-hour special sessions on Saturday morning.  The special sessions will begin with a panel of experts sharing a bit about their own experiences and setting the stage for open discussions.

The special sessions are:

-- Scientific research during pandemics: 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted everyone’s lives and this session is a way for everyone to share their stories and ideas about ways to advance research when one can't be in the field or laboratory.

-- Diversity and inclusion: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Listen to others and identify actions the watershed sciences and environmental conservation movement should take to remove discrimination and eliminate racism.  Share ways that your organization has been able to improve diversity and inclusion, eliminate stereotypes, and create a healthy environment for all.

-- Science and Communications: 11:00 to Noon.  Explore ways to better disseminate and communicate your science to the public, policymakers, reporters, voters and other key audiences.  How to use social media and other platforms to disseminate information and promote watershed sciences, environmental restoration, and many other issues associated with sustainability.
