PA Resources Council Announces November Schedule Of Traveling Glass Recycling Program Events

On October 29, the PA Resources Council announced the November schedule for its Traveling Glass Recycling Program events which provides a free recycling service to residents that rotates through a variety of locations in western Pennsylvania.

Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required).  Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on.  Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.

“The bin visits various locations on a weekly basis from Saturday through Thursday, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and provides residents with a safe method for recycling glass while eliminating the need to interact with other individuals or touch shared surfaces,” according to PRC Environmental Program Coordinator Ashley DiGregorio

Schedule

The November events will be held--

-- November 7 to 12 - Mercer County: City of Hermitage Fire Station #3, Mercer Ave. (near intersection of Route 62 and Route 18), Hermitage, PA 16148, presented by City of Hermitage;

-- November 14 to 19 - Allegheny County: Moon Township Public Works Facility, 1115 Stevenson Mill Road, Coraopolis, PA 15108, presented by Moon Township.  Special Hours: Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.;

-- November 21 to 26 - Allegheny County: Sewickley Riverfront Park, 300 Chadwick St, Sewickley, PA 15143, presented by Sewickley Borough; and

-- November 28 - December 3 - Allegheny County: South Fayette Township Municipal Building,  515 Millers Run Rd, Morgan, PA 15064, presented by South Fayette Township

“Reasons for recycling glass include the fact that glass can be recycled forever,” said DiGregorio.  “Recycling glass requires 70 percent less energy than when manufacturing glass from raw materials, and a glass bottle can go from recycling bin back to store shelf in as little as 30 days.”

Since launching its Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program in early June, PRC has collected more than 58 tons of glass.

PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program is sponsored by Owens-Illinois, Inc. and CAP Glass.
