Lake Erie-Allegheny Earth Force to Host Alternative Energy Educator Workshop

The Lake Erie-Allegheny Earth Force and the Department of Environmental Protection will hold a free educator workshop-- Introducing Alternative Energy-- on October 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center in Erie.

Designed for middle and high school teachers, homeschoolers and non-formal educators, participants will explore alternative energy technologies, including solar, wind, hydrogen fuel cells and biofuels and learn about energy conservation for schools through presentations, hands-on activities and a field trip to observe alternative energy technology in action.

The workshop is based upon Pennsylvania’s Academic Standards for Environment and Ecology and Science and Technology and participating teachers are eligible for 7.0 Act 48 credit hours.

According to Jack Farster, Director of DEP’s Environmental Education and Information Center, “We are pleased to offer this workshop to educators. With the ever-increasing amount of alternative energy technology activities, whether planned or ongoing in the Erie and surrounding areas, it was a natural fit to offer this workshop to area educators.”

To register for the workshop, educators should contact Ann Devine, in DEP’s Environmental Education and Information Center, at 717-772-1644 or send e-mail to: adevine@state.pa.us by October 13. Space is limited, so registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
