PA Organization For Watersheds & Rivers Hosts Jan. 15 Webinar On Stream Hydrology And Geomorphology In Restoration Planning

The PA Organization for Watersheds and Rivers will host a January 15 webinar from Noon to 1:00 p.m. on stream hydrology and geomorphology and watershed restoration planning.

The webinar is a follow up on the very popular geology of Pennsylvania Streams webinar from last year.

Join Dr. Benjamin Hayes of Bucknell University to learn why geomorphic and hydrological processes and the historical legacy of your stream should be considered when creating a watershed conservation and restoration plan.

Learn about new approaches that help sequester carbon and sediment in watersheds, reconnect streams to their floodplains, increase channel complexity and bring about long-term ecological improvement.

Click Here to register.  The webinar is free, but please register by Noon on January 14.  Questions should be directed to Tali MacArthur at tmacarthur@pecpa.org

Upcoming Training

In late February 2021, POWR will launch a three-part training through which watershed organization volunteers and leaders will gain the knowledge, understanding, and skills necessary to more effectively participate in many local and regional policy, land use and planning efforts occurring throughout the Commonwealth.

These include meaningful and impactful engagement in Phase 3 WIP implementation; municipal MS4s permit compliance; comprehensive planning efforts; local zoning, subdivision, and building permit decisions; ordinance variances; and other decisions and plans that impact water and land use on the landscape.

POWR hopes that by working together, informed citizens and government leaders can make decisions today that will have lasting regional implications for water resource protection tomorrow.

For more information on programs, initiatives, upcoming events and how you can get involved, visit the PA Organization for Watersheds and Rivers website.
