DEP Issues Final General Permit For Natural Gas-Fired Combined Heat & Power Facilities

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the January 30 PA Bulletin it has issued a final General Plan Approval and General Operating Permit for certain Natural Gas-Fired Combined Heat and Power Facilities.

The general permit allows proposed combined heat and power facilities that emit no more than a certain level of emissions to avoid the need to obtain regular air quality plan approval and operating permit.

Examples of the emission limits include no more than 100 tons of nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxides and particulate matter and 50 tons of volatile organic compounds and total hazardous air pollutants of 25 tons.

The final general permit and a comment and response document will be posted in DEP’s eLibrary.  Questions should be directed to David Clark, davclark@pa.gov or 717-772-3942.
