Landforce Now Accepting Applications For Crew Positions In Pittsburgh & Surrounding Neighborhoods; Need Help With A Green Infrastructure Project?

The Pittsburgh-based Landforce job readiness and land stewardship program is now accepting applications for 2021 crew members in Pittsburgh and the surrounding neighborhoods. The deadline for applications is March 11. Crew Members Landforce crew members take on green infrastructure for nonprofit, public and other groups on maintenance, habitat restoration, trail construction and other projects to provide members with real work experience and personal training to help them secure positions in the job market. Landforce provides opportunities for people (individuals returning from incarceration, struggling with addiction, mental health diagnoses, who are homeless, or living in poverty) as they move towards economic mobility. They combine workforce development training with environmental stewardship employment and transitional support to new employment. Click Here for examples of past projects. Landforce crews receive seven weeks of training starting on April 12 in land stewardship skills training, professional development, work readiness training, and certifications (including First Aid, Tree Tender, OSHA, Chainsaw Safety Certification, and Restorative Practices. Crew members are paid $10/hour for 35 hours per week of work. After training, crew members will work in stewardship positions on projects like tree planting & care, rain garden & bioswale installation & maintenance, deconstruction, invasive plant removal, trail construction, and basic carpentry concluding in the fall. Over the last five years Landforce has hired nearly 100 people and contributed nearly 40,000 hours of environmental stewardship to the region. Crew members have participated in 12,000 hours of training and 1,500 hours of case management. In a typical year, more than 75 percent of crew members complete their tenure with Landforce, and 92 percent of our finishers go on to other employment within 2 weeks of completing our season. 91 percent of respondents are still working 12 months after leaving Landforce.
