PA Resources Council To Hold 6 Backyard Composting, Rain Barrel & Recycling, Waste Reduction Webinars In March

The PA Resources Council will hold four Backyard Composting, one Rain Barrel and one Recycling and Waste Reduction online conservation workshops during March.

PRC conservation workshop webinars are sponsored by Green Mountain Energy.

"Since launching online learning in 2020, PRC has received a tremendous amount of feedback concerning how the webinar format is an extremely convenient way to learn from the comfort of home,” according to PRC Education Specialist Nancy Martin.  “And the online format enables individuals throughout the Commonwealth to take part since webinars require no travel to a specific classroom location.”

Backyard Composting

Learn the benefits of backyard composting, including the overall process, methods for setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance and ways to use finished compost. 

The workshops will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on March 3, 11, 18 and 22.

The $80 course fee includes instruction plus a FreeGarden EARTH compost bin, which features an 82-gallon capacity ideal for both urban and suburban settings.

Participants in the Backyard Composting webinars will receive compost bins following the webinars.  Those living in the greater Philadelphia area will pick up compost bins at Rose Tree Park in Media, Pa., while those living in the greater Pittsburgh area will pick up their compost bins and rain barrels at PRC’s headquarters located on the North Side.

Individuals will register for a time to pick up compost bins after completing online instruction.  Pre-registration is required.  Click Here to register.

Rain Barrels

Discover how to harvest rainwater from your roof, store it in a barrel and use it in the landscape on March 30 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

Learn about problems associated with stormwater runoff and techniques to reduce your contribution to watershed pollution.

Course fee of $80 includes instruction plus a FreeGarden RAIN 55-gallon easy-to-install rain barrel.

Individuals will register for a time to pick up rain barrels after completing online instruction.  Pre-registration is required.  Click Here to register.

Recycling & Waste Reduction

The March 16 workshop will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. is designed to answer common questions surrounding recycling issues such as curbside collection, hard-to-recycle material and pharmaceutical disposal.
