EPA, Philadelphia to Promote Voluntary Pollution Reductions
|
The Region III Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the City of Philadelphia will enter into a new voluntary partnership (an industry partnership initiative) to encourage businesses to go beyond compliance to reduce their emissions of toxic air pollutants, greenhouse gases and increase their energy efficiency. EPA will provide technical assistance, pollution prevention (P2)2 site assessments (in partnership with state and local partners), and improved public relations. A similar initiative will be launched in the Claymont, Del. area in conjunction with EPA and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. EPA held an industry partnership initiative orientation workshop on September 19, for Philadelphia industry and business representatives on how to become involved in this new initiative to help reduce air emissions in their neighborhoods. For a description of some of the basic techniques to be used, visit the EPA Pollution Prevention webpage. |
