SRBC Lower Susquehanna Source Water Protection Partnership Meets May 13

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission's Lower Susquehanna Source Water Protection Partnership will hold a virtual meeting May 13 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Mike Snyder, District Conservationist at the Lebanon Field Office for the Natural Resources Conservation Service will outline NRCS’s methods and role in promoting water quality improvements and source water protection with private agricultural landowners through their Conservation Planning process. Discussion will include inventorying available resources, evaluating resource concerns, developing alternatives, decision-making and implementation. Ashley Lenig, Conservation Program Manager at the Pennsylvania office of the NRCS, will provide an overview of NRCS programs, initiatives, and incentives related to Source Water Protection in the Lower Susquehanna River region. The contracting process from application to selection for funding will be reviewed. Ashley will highlight work done in the Swatara Creek watershed through the National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI). She will also discuss incentivized practices in source water areas and the source water protection provisions in the federal Farm Bill of 2018.
