Carmichaels H.S. Envirothon Team Partners With Izaak Walton League To Plant Trees For Earth Day; Wins Greene County Envirothon

The Carmichaels High School Envirothon Team in Greene County partnered with the Izaak Walton League to plant trees at State Game Lands 223 on April 24– two days after Earth Day. The project's goal is to establish a wildlife hedgerow across fields formerly in mowed hay production. The groups were joined by other volunteers and planted over 125 seedlings with one-third each of needled conifer trees, deciduous trees and deciduous shrubs. The selection includes flowering and fruiting trees and shrubs which will provide food and cover for pollinators, birds, & other wildlife over much of the year. 2021 County Envirothon The Carmichaels Envirothon teams placed first, second, and third place at the Greene County Envirothon team competition held in-person at Hunting Hills on Earth Day, April 22. The winning Carmichaels Team 1 will have the opportunity to compete at the Pennsylvania State Envirothon which will be held virtually on May 10 and 11. [In 2019, a Carmichaels Envirothon Team won the Pennsylvania statewide Envirothon and went on to place third in the International Envirothon Competition.
