Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Berks County is celebrating Black Birders Week May 30 to June 5 with a special series of events to highlight Black nature Enthusiasts and to increase the visibility of Black birders, who face unique challenges and dangers when engaging in outdoor activities.

Hawk Mountain is holding both virtual and on-site programs--

-- May 31 to June 5: Ruby's Birds StoryWalk: Enjoy a self-guided, outdoor reading experience around the Visitor Center and Native Plant Garden and follow the story of Ruby as she discovers the wonder of birds!

-- June 1: Ruby's Birds: Sanctuary Storytime virtual program: Join us for a read-along of Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson, a story about a young girl in New York City who explores the joy and wonder of nature walks and birding. Then, learn about some of the birds we meet in the book and learn how to make a fun bird craft!  Registration required.

-- June 3: In the Field and Behind the Lens with David Greaves and Darren Cook virtual program.  Sit down virtually with talented nature photographers David Greaves and Darren Cook as they share their work and personal stories from in the field. Registration required.

-- June 5: Nature is for Everyone, Everywhere.   Enjoy a guided walk with guest Thomas Koger to take in the sounds and sights of the mountain and discuss outdoor recreation opportunities nearby and in a variety of settings. Registration required.

-- Let's Talk About #BlackBirdersWeek. On Demand on Hawk Mountain YouTube Channel.  Hawk Mountain Board Members Gillian Bowser and Scott Weidensaul talk with Drew Lanham about the importance and growing platform of #BlackBirdersWeek. Click Here to watch now.
