DEP Publishes Section 401 Water Quality Certification For Revolution Pipeline In Western PA

The Department of Environmental Protection published a series of four notices in the June 5 PA Bulletin related to Section 401 Water Quality Certification for the Revolution natural gas pipeline.  (PA Bulletin, page 3183)

The Revolution Pipeline route goes through Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Washington counties. This certification relates to proposed restoration and on-site mitigation of aquatic resources impacted by slope failures along the pipeline route.

In January 2020, DEP fined the owners of Revolution Pipeline $30.6 million for a series of failures related to the pipeline construction that resulted in a 2018 explosion of the pipeline in Beaver County just shortly after the new pipeline started operating. Read more here.

The owners of Revolution Pipeline -- an Energy Transfer Partners subsidiary-- have been trying to fix the problems related to the pipeline’s construction since that time.
