Senate Agriculture Committee Holds Sept. 21 Hearing On Utility Scale Solar Development And Agricultural Land

The Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee is scheduled to hold another hearing on utility scale solar energy facilities and agricultural land. Sen. Elder Vogel (R-Beaver), Majority Chair of the Committee, has expressed concerns about the amount of farmland large solar energy facilities are using. Farm groups testified before several committees about the economic benefits of solar energy facilities and how they help keep their farms operating. Read more here. Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Lycoming), Majority Chair of the Senate Environmental Committee, has sponsored several bills to help block solar energy development in the state and make it more expensive, denying farmers and other landowners the economic benefits of this development.
