Sustainable Energy Education & Development Support and the Chamber of the Northern Poconos are now accepting nominations for the 2022 Green Business of the Year Award. The deadline for nominations is November 26. The Awards are intended to increase the region’s green business practices, as consumers are increasingly shopping for “greener” companies, and honor a Chamber member business for their sustainable business practices. “Recognizing green business practices is a way to encourage additional efforts and compound the environmental benefits for our community. SEEDS has proudly worked with The Chamber for years to make sure these accomplishments are celebrated,” said Jocelyn Cramer, Wayne County Commissioner and SEEDS Board Member at Large. All businesses are eligible for environmentally friendly practices, including: energy conservation, renewable energy, transportation, water conservation, purchasing/waste prevention, pollution reduction and recycling/composting. Past award recipients include the Cooperage Project for a solar project and efficient boilers, Leeward Construction for using recycled blacktop, Nature’s Grace Deli for a solar PV installation, Stephens Pharmacy/Northeast Med-Equip for creating an employee “Green Team”, Wayne Memorial Hospital for eliminating Styrofoam, Himalayan Institute for a commitment to zero waste, Wayne Highlands School District for on-site food waste composting, The Ledges Hotel for various eco-friendly initiatives, and the Car Wash on Route 6 for water recycling, and using energy-efficient equipment and environmentally-friendly detergents. Annual recognition of a Green Business of the Year is the Chamber’s way to appreciate businesses for making this region a more sustainable place to live and work. The 9th annual Green Business of the Year will be honored at The Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting, which will be held on January 13, 2022 at The Settlers Inn. Click Here for an application.
