Upcoming Friends Of The Wissahickon Events To Keep Wissahickon Valley Park Clean & Green

Whether it’s helping clear trash or choosing restroom locations, you can help Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) this winter by participating in its ongoing work to conserve one of the area’s greatest treasures - the Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia.

The events include--

-- January 17, 9:00 a.m. - Noon: MLK Day of Service: Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” By volunteering on this day, we will be giving back to all who visit Wissahickon Valley Park, the creek, and the plants and animals that rely on it to live.

For the first time, FOW and partners at Philadelphia Parks & Recreations will close Lincoln Drive from Wissahickon Ave. to Ridge Ave. for a large-scale litter cleanup.

It’s a great opportunity for individuals and groups to join together to clear the extensive trash that collects along this heavily traveled park-adjacent roadway.

-- January 18, 6:00 p.m.: Annual Public Projects Meeting: Join FOW online for its 2022 Annual Public Projects Meeting to learn about FOW’s upcoming plans and projects to conserve the Wissahickon Valley Park.

Executive Director Ruffian Tittmann will review last year’s improvements and the status of current and planned conservation projects, while Director of Field Stewardship Shawn Green will share FOW’s volunteer achievements from 2021 as well as how to get involved in 2022.
