DEP/DCNR/Game Commission: First Rachel Carson Building Peregrine Falcon Egg Hatched!
|
|
Were you watching? On April 16, the first peregrine falcon egg hatched at the nest on the Rachel Carson Building in Harrisburg! There are four more eggs to go. Appropriately, the Rachel Carson Building, headquarters for DEP and DCNR, is named for Pennsylvania’s own Rachel Carson, the woman often credited with starting the modern environmental movement with her research and writing about pesticides in her landmark Silent Spring book. She was born in Springdale, Allegheny County on May 27, 1907 and died in 1964. Her life and legacy as a woman in science is celebrated at the Rachel Carson Homestead.
