Clean out the garage…the basement…the overflowing closets throughout the house because the region’s annual large-scale collection of materials to be reused by local nonprofits will take place on Saturday, October 15, in Allegheny County. PA Resources Council’s “ReuseFest”-- a one-of-a-kind drop-off event for gently used materials destined for reuse by numerous local nonprofit organizations-- will accept a wide variety of materials including art/office supplies, bedding/bath, bikes, clothing, furniture, kitchen items, medical supplies, usable building materials and more. PRC’s 11th annual “ReuseFest” in Allegheny County will take place on Saturday, October 15, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in North Park. “This one-of-a-kind collection event provides area residents with an opportunity to responsibly donate a variety of unwanted but still usable items to multiple local nonprofits at one convenient location,” according to PRC Collection Events Manager Josh Schuneman. “All materials donated at ReuseFest will be reused in some fashion, whether resold, repurposed or given to those in need in our region.” Nonprofits collecting materials at the October 15 event will include Brother’s Brother Foundation, Construction Junction, Dress for Success, The Education Partnership, Free Ride, Goodwill of Southwestern PA, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh, Off the Floor and Society of St. Vincent de Paul. “While the purpose of ReuseFest is to provide a second life to a wide variety of materials, it’s okay to place stained, broken, cracked or otherwise damaged items in a trash can rather than donating to charity,” said Schuneman. “Before packing an item to bring to ReuseFest, look at the condition and ask yourself, ‘Would I buy this item in its current condition?’ This criteria should help you to determine which materials to donate on October 15.” Registration Required To streamline the process at this popular annual event, PRC is introducing a registration process in 2022. Individuals planning to drop off materials at the North Park collection must register in advance by visiting PRC’s Reuse webpage or by calling 412-488-7490 x1. ReuseFest is sponsored by UPMC with support from and Allegheny County Parks Department. For a complete list of participant requirements and materials collected, visit PRC’s Reuse webpage.
