PA Solar Center Hosts Jan. 20 Webinar On Federal Solar Energy Tax Credits And Resources For PA's Solar Industry

The Pennsylvania Solar Center is hosting a January 20 webinar on Federal Solar Energy Tax Credits and Resources for PA's Solar Industry from Noon to 1:15 p.m.

Now that the solar investment and production tax credits have been updated by the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), many expect the economic certainty of solar projects to improve over the long-term.

But in the short-term, some new requirements have created the need for better access to and awareness of resources available to secure the highest possible amount of solar tax credits.

One solar tax credit update requires solar projects larger than 1MWac to employ a specific percentage of apprentices during the construction, alteration, or repair of a solar project.

This requirement has caused some to ask if there will be enough apprentices available in Pennsylvania to keep up with growing demand.

And where should Pennsylvania’s solar industry go to learn more about apprenticeship programs that are equipped to support Pennsylvania’s solar industry?

Join webinar speakers as they review the solar tax credits’ new apprenticeship requirements and what we can do to advance a Pennsylvania statewide solar apprenticeship program.

The speakers include--

-- Chris Flynn, Workforce Outreach Manager, Pennsylvania College of Technology

-- PA Department of Labor & Industry Apprenticeship & Training Office (tentative)

-- Colleen McCann Kettles, Director, Workforce and Business Development Division, Florida Solar Energy Center, University of Central Florida

The webinar will walk through the updated apprenticeship requirements and how to access the highest amount of tax credits possible.

They’ll also be joined by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s Apprenticeship and Training Office and from the higher education pipeline to provide information and resources on how to access well-trained, highly qualified apprentices for Pennsylvania’s solar workforce.

Last, the speakers will review solar-specific apprenticeship programs that have been implemented in other states and what Pennsylvania legislators can do to support programs that strengthen our solar workforce.
