PA Environmental, Energy Advocates Call On Shapiro Administration To Maximize Federal Investments Under Inflation Reduction, Bipartisan Infrastructure Laws

On February 27, 34 environmental and energy organizations representing a diverse range of constituencies across the Commonwealth issued a letter calling on the Governor to devote adequate funding and staff time to the implementation of major new federal investments that will create Pennsylvania jobs and move the state toward a cleaner and more resilient economy in his March 7 budget address.

The letter, which accompanies this release, reflects concern that Pennsylvania may not be prepared to fully capitalize on historic new federal funding for pollution-free energy, infrastructure, energy efficiency, jobs creation, transit, and more.

The letter highlighted that key programs within the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will require meaningful and timely engagement from state leaders, both in applying for competitive grants and in implementing funding once it is received.

In the letter, advocates call for the Shapiro Administration to "rapidly coordinate a comprehensive, interdepartmental approach to securing and implementing Pennsylvania’s share of IRA and IIJA funding" and for "robust stakeholder engagement throughout the process to ensure that the voices and interests of all Pennsylvanians – especially low-income communities, energy workers and communities, and communities of color – are prioritized."
