In January, Keep PA Beautiful recognized Beth Intoccia of Chester County as one of their 2022 volunteers of the year.

Beth founded the Litter Lifters of West Vincent, which has held many events since mid-2020 and removed well over 1,000 bags of litter from Chester County roadways and streams.

"Beth’s passion for improving the environment and educating others, also includes her mentoring others interested in making a difference in and around their communities in Chester County and beyond. Without Beth’s drive, determination, and guidance, the Keep Chester County Beautiful affiliate would not exist today. We are grateful for Beth’s love of nature and making communities stronger, cleaner, and better places to live,” said Carrie Conwell, Keep Chester County Beautiful Coordinator and Senior Environmental Planner of Chester County.

In Her Own Words

In a recent recognition ceremony, Beth said this on encouraging others to work in their communities--

“We have had success in tackling the litter issue in Northern Chester County because of dedicated volunteers. I could not have accomplished this alone.

“We have massive amounts of litter on our roads and we need to work on this together.

“What has been accomplished in less than three years is amazing!

“We have started a litter task force during lockdown for West Vincent Township; planned and executed over 20 litter clean ups; removed over 1,200 bags of litter along our roads, woods and waterways with the help of over 100 people; activated other townships to create litter task forces; worked with government officials/businesses/schools and Pennsylvania residents

“Thank you commissioners for being open minded when I contacted you, asking you to consider starting an affiliate with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.  Your leadership is needed to develop litter management strategies for the county.

“I am grateful for all the people who are helping me create a cleaner, more beautiful Chester County- supporters like PA state senators Katie Muth and Carolyn Comitta, state representative Danielle Friel Otten, local businesses, PennDOT, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful,  and non profit watershed agencies.

“Together we can continue to make great progress in developing and implementing litter management strategies.”
